GH¢100 lands Seidu in 15 years imprisonment
An Accra Circuit Court has given an armed robber 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for robbing a taxi driver of GH¢100.00 at knife point at Shukura in Accra.
The convict Abdul Rauf Seidu was slapped with two charges, robbery and conspiracy to commit crime, but was acquitted and discharged on the second count by the court presided over by Mrs Sussana Ekuful.
Prosecuting Officer Chief Inspector William K. Boateng told the court that the convict committed the crime with one Mallam Jamel who is currently at large.
Thus, on October 23, 2018 at about 10:00 pm, the two met at Shukura where they planned the robbery attack, by chattering a taxi that was in charge of the complainant.
The prosecutor told the court that the convict and his compliance board the taxi from the Flamingo traffic light to Lartebiokorshie near Radio Gold.
He said the convict sat at the back seat while Mallam also took charge of the front seat of the taxi, adding that the two begun to implement their plot when the car was approaching a quiet neighborhood.
The court was informed that they asked the complainant to stop the car and Mallam forcefully switched off the engine, removed the ignition key and asked the complainant to hand over every money he had on him.
C/Inspt Boateng added that the convict pulled a knife and threatened to stab the complainant if he fails to comply with their directive.
The complainant sensing danger exited the car and started shouting for help.
According to prosecution, the two managed to run out of the car with the GHC100.00 they got from beneath a carpet in the taxi but luck eluded the convict who was caught by a group of young men in the area while his accomplice escaped.
The court heard that the group met some policemen led by Inspector Richard Antwi, who were on patrol duties in the area and handed over the convict to them.
Prosecution noted that efforts were still being made to arrest Mallam.
