President Akufo-Addo has appointed new Managing Director (MD), Genevieve Sackey, to oversee the affairs of Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Limited (GCMCL).

Madam Sackey was appointed by the President on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Her appointment letter reads: ” Appointment of Managing Director of Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Limited.

The President has nominated Madam Genevieve Sackey for the appointment of Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Limited (the company).

Kindly take the necessary steps to regularise the said appointment in accordance with the relevent provisions of the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and the regulations of the company.

Pleased accept the President’s best wishes.”

Signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, with copies to the Minister for Energy, the Vice Presiden, Chief of Staff and Chairman of GCMC.

However, the interesting twist of this letter is that two days after Ms. Sackey’s appointment, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GCMC, Frances Asiam has also tendered in her resignation.

In the letter dated Thursday, which is currently making waves on social media, Madam Asiam addressed the President, saying “I Frances Asiam in all humility and respect wish to inform you of my resignation as the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Limited.

I thank you for having the confidence in me to appoint and reappoint me since 2017.

I wish the government well in future endeavours.”

She also copied several personality including the Vice President and the Chief of Staff.

Many people have suggested that Madam Asiam resignation was just a cover up for being sacked by the President.

Meanwhile, she claimed she was compelled to resign due excessive interference in her work by the Minister for Energy, Mathew Opoku Prempeh.

According to her, the Minister has approached another agency to takeover the management of GCMCL, a decision that have thrown her off gear.

Known for her acidic and venomous tone of voice, Madam Asiam says, “I’m a principled person, I have resigned for him to take over and do whatever he wants.”
