East Legon serial robber remanded
Prince Kwabena Adjei, known as “Doctor,” aged 41, has been remanded by the Accra Circuit Court pending further legal proceedings following his alleged involvement in a series of high-profile robberies.
Adjei appeared before the court presided over by His Honour Isaac Addo on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
His plea was not taken during this initial appearance. He is scheduled to return to court on Monday, July 29, 2024, where his plea will be formally recorded on seven counts of robbery.
The charges stem from investigations into a frightening incident involving businessman Fred Gbadegbe, who reported being robbed at gunpoint in East Legon early on April 3, 2024.
According to Mr. Gbadegbe, the assailant forcefully took a substantial amount of luxury items and cash, totaling millions in Ghanaian Cedis and international currencies.
Stolen items included two Rolex wristwatches valued at $50,000 and £38,000 respectively, as well as gold and diamond chains each valued at £28,000.
Additionally, the accused allegedly took €50,000, GH¢6,000.00, and a Ruger pistol with serial number 337-88582.
Following the robbery, Mr. Gbadegbe promptly reported the incident to the police, providing crucial video footage that captured the ordeal and assisted investigators in identifying the suspect.
A breakthrough occurred on July 9, 2024, when Mr. Gbadegbe spotted Prince Kwabena Adjei at District 24, a restaurant in East Legon, and alerted law enforcement. Police swiftly responded, apprehending Adjei, who resides in West Legon, based on positive identification by the victim.
A subsequent search of Adjei’s residence yielded significant evidence, including a 9mm Luger pistol with serial number 383-91964, loaded with ammunition, and additional rounds of 380 automatic caliber ammunition. Also recovered were six hoodies, a wristwatch, and assorted identification cards.
These findings are crucial to ongoing investigations linking Adjei to multiple robbery incidents across the Greater Accra Region.During police interrogation, Adjei denied involvement in the crimes, despite compelling evidence placing him at the scenes of the robberies and recovering stolen items.
The Ghana Police Service continues to actively investigate the case to ensure justice for the victims affected by these bold crimes.
For now, Prince Kwabena Adjei remains in police custody as authorities gather evidence and prepare their case against him.
