Curses evoking pastor granted GH¢10K bail

Kwabena Owusu Adjei has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court to an amount of GH¢10, 000.00 with three sureties, two to government workers who earner not less than GH¢2,000.00.

Adjei is facing three counts – threat of contrary to section 75 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), Second Degree Felony, Unlawful possession of narcotic plants contrary to section 41(1) of the Narcotic Control Commission Act 2020 (Act 1019) and assault on Public Officer contrary to section 205(b) of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

The court presided by His Honour Emmanuel Essandoh was informed by the prosecutor that Jean Mensa who is the Electoral Commissioner of  Ghana on June 5, 2020 reported Adjei to the police for threatened to cause her death among other statements.

On June 9, 2020, intelligence led to the arrest of Adjei at Grada Estate, a suburb of Teshie granting interview to team of journalists in relation to a video he shared on social media, in which he threatened to cause the death.

 After the arrest, a search conducted on him led to the discovery of one used Infiinex ‘5’ , black wallet containing GH¢29.00 and accused person’s Voter ID number 23/0003236 as well as a brown waist pack that contained mobile charger, and two suspected afrodizia medicine labelled Mr Q.

Other things contained in the waist pack include a pack of brown smoking XL paper and two brown wrapped substance of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic plants.

According to the brief facts, Adjei signed the inventories of items or articles found on him as his own.

Adjei who is self-acclaimed Man of God during investigation was said to have being accompanying a group to visit and donate to an orphanage named Jehovah Rapha Foundation at Suhun in the Eastern region over past four years.

The facts sheet further revealed that Adjei (accused person) in order to facilitate the commission of the crime and also to put the complainant in fear of death, on the fourth of this month together with five others including a presenter of Otumfuo TV in disguise to donates items.

Meanwhile, at the orphanage for the supposed donation, the accused person made a video of himself, in which he threatened to cause the death of the EC chairperson.

“The threat by the accused person immediately put the complainant in fear of death, that is, in fear of being murdered hence a report was made to the police,” it added.

It said a careful analysis of the said video further disclosed the accused person used abusive, threatening and unprintable words against complainant in the lawful executive of her statutory duties as a public officer.   

The leafy substance found on him was sent to material suspected to Police Forensic Laboratory for examination and it was found to be Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and Cannabinol.

Investigation awaiting the report of transcription of the video by accused person.

The accused person is expected to report to the police twice every week.
