Court remands 2 Nigerians for human trafficking

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two Nigerians into lawful police custody for the offense of conspiracy to commit a crime, human trafficking, and soliciting or importuning for immoral purposes.

The names of the two Nigerian citizens caught up with the Ghana’s law are Victoria Okeke, and Adorabi Emmanuel. The prosecuting officer Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah told the court that the complainants, Jay Ezekiel and Hauwa Ummi are also Nigerian citizens.

He said although the accused persons – Victoria and Adorabi – are domiciled in Ghana for some years now, they do not have any particular economic activity that they are engaged in.

The prosecutor said in the month of June, 2022, the accused persons engaged their accomplice, Abuche who is currently at large to recruit the complainants for them under the pretext of employing them in a restaurant in Ghana.
He added that on June 13, 2022 , the accused managed to transport the complainants to Ghana and were housed at Kwabenya. 

According to him, contrary to the expectation of the complainants to work at restaurants, the accused persons rather forced them  into prostitution. 

He narrated to the court that since the complainants could not bear the situation in prostitution, escaped from the captivity of the accused persons.

Inspt Appiah added that June  22, 2022, the complainants went to Accra Regional CID and lodged complaint. 
He said the complainant led the Police to the apartment of the accused persons and they were arrested. 

The prosecutor added that after investigation, the accused person were charged with the offence but they have all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
