Court jails Appaw 15 years for robbery attempt

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 20 year old unemployed Samuel Kwame Appaw to 15 years imprison term for attempting to rob a hotelier at La in Accra.

The sentence was handed down to the 20 year old by the circuit court presided over by Patricia Amponsah, this week’s Monday on the charges of attempting to commit crime to wit, robbery.

The background information leading to Appaw incarceration and as presented in court by the prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector Gohoho were that the convict and another attacked a hotelier.

C/Inspt Gohoho indicated to the court that on November 13, 2021, at about 4:630 pm, the hotelier who is the complainant in the case, after close of work came to stand on the roadside in front of the hotel waiting for a bus.

While she was waiting, he said the convict and his accomplice, currently at large suddenly, appeared and attempted to collect her belongings.

He said the complainant struggled with them and shouted for help, by which the security men on duty at the hotel rushed to her rescue.

Unfortunately, the convict and his accomplice managed to escape but they were captured by CCTV camera in front of the hotel.

Nearly a month later, thus on December on 9, 2021, at about 4:30 pm the convict was spotted at the Total filling station around the La Pleasure beach resort near the hotel and he was arrested, the prosecutor narrates.

C/Inspt Gohoho indicated that a search conducted on the convict at the station revealed three wraps of dried leaves suspected to be India hemp in a black polythene bag.

And after investigations he, the accused person now a convict was charged with the offence before this honourable court.
