Court discharges NAN1
The Attorney-General’s (A-G) office has withdrawn the trial of Nana Appiah Mensah also known as NAN1 and CEO of defunct Menzgold at the Accra Circuit Court to start afresh at the High Court.
The trial of NAN1 commenced at the circuit court 10 in January 15, 2019, with the man in the centre of controversy making almost 30 appearances before the court.
He was charged with defrauding by false pretences, abetment to defraud by false pretences, carrying deposit business without a licence, abetment of sale of minerals without a licence, sale of minerals without a licence, abetment to the unlawful deposit-taking, unlawful deposit-taking and money laundering.

Nana Appiah, his wife, Ms Rose Tetteh, and his sister, Ms Benedicta Mensah, were accused of using Menzgold as a tool to defraud more than 16,000 people off GH¢1,680,920,000.00.
While the chapter of NAN1’s legal journey ends at the circuit court, a fresh wound had been opened at the Accra High Court where the embattled former CEO of Menzgold is facing some 39 criminal charges.
Like before, NAN1 pleaded not guilty to selling gold, operating deposit business without license, stealing, defrauding by false pretences, inducement to invest, fraudulent breach of trust and money laundering.
Nan1 is hauled yo the court together with two entities – Menzgold Ghana Company Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Ghana Limited – which he owed.
He has currently been granted bail in the sum of GH¢500 million with four sureties. Previously, the court granted him bail in the sum of GH¢100 million to be justified by two sureties.
His counsel, Kwame Boafo Akuffo applied for bail variation and the condition was reviewed by Justice Eric Owusu-Dapaah to an opened bail.
