Convicted couple teamed up to beat judge
The presiding judge of an Accra Circuit court, Evelyn Asamoah, today has to ran for her life after a couple convicted to jail launch a surprised attack on her.
In the spare of the moment Her Honour Mrs. Asamoah had to escape from being harmed by convict Frank Obeng who was sitting with his wife in the public gallery, and few steps away from the bench.
However, convict Obeng was stopped in time by the court officers from getting too close to the bench and his attack was curled.
Convict Obeng could not come to terms with why the judge would hand down to him, a harsh prison terms of 15 years in hard labour, whereas the judge does not even know him from anywhere.
The entire court was turned upside down and sitting was adjourned for almost for police re-enforcement to intervene.
The pandemonium attracted other court officers and suspectors to get a grim of what was happening.
Convict Obeng’s wife, Joyce Sarfowaa was given 10 years imprisonment in hard labour as well, but the couple were not happy because they consider the punishment to be too harsh, and therefore decided to put up a show.
This was when the judge had just finished reading the sentence of their first count, conspiracy to commit a crime to wit stealing.
Convict Joyce Sarfowaa wailed wandered whether she was hallucinating or being confronted with reality, saying why has the judge done this to us; who will take care of my five year-old child.
Convict Obeng also sweating profusely in his unbuttoned blue shirt, carefully ironed to matches his pair of trousers nearly went naked in the court.
He swon that he will rather die than going to prison.
It took the efforts of the Court Warrant Officers to bring the situation under control.
Shortly, after the two were picked up by the re-enforcement team, Her Honour Mrs. Asamoah resumed sitting and continued from where she left off.
She jailed Joyce 10 more years for stealing over GH¢8000,000.00 from her employer Mavis Offan, a mothercare dealer at Okaishie, to purchase landed property, Toyota Venza for Frank and establishing herself.
Frank was slapped 15 more years for abetment to commit a crime, and 10 years for money laundering.
The court made an order that the landed property, car and the goods retrieved from the convict should be given to the complainant.
It further ordered the convict to pay an amount of GH¢712,229 to the complainant.
All sentences are to run concurrently.
