Carlos Ahenkorah is a real fool – court told
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West Constituency, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah has allegedly been described as a real definition of a fool by a constituent.
In criminal matter brought before a Kaneshie district court, presided over by Ama Adumako-Kwakye yesterday, was informed that the MP has been delineated also as stupid and nobody by one Nana Yaw Ntim, who lives in one of the areas in the Tema West.
Mr Ntim has, therefore, been charged with offensive conduct but he has pleaded guilty to the office.
Mr Ntim counsel, however, pleaded with her honour for the case to be settled out of court, since the accused and the complainant [the MP] are both members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the counsel, the case before the court is a matter can be resolved by the party’s established structures, without necessarily involving the court.
The counsel urged the court to give them the chance to seek redress from the party, which they belonged.
He also advised that the case is demeanor in nature, hence public resources should not be wasted on it.
The counsel added that the complainant is an MP who is needed at Parliament to do government business but in court litigating over such a minor issue.
Mr Ntim counsel indicated that although the case a minor, it was draining state resources by deploying a heavy security presence at the court.
The court granted the accused bail in the sum of GH¢100, 000 with two sureties.
The court further directed that the case is referred to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and if the parties failed to come to terms, the case will continue.
The facts of the case
According to the facts presented by the prosecution, the complainant is an MP while the accused Nana Yaw Ntim is a businessman residing at Dwahenya near Tema and also a member of the New Patriotic Party in the same constituency.
The prosecution team said on February3, 2022, Mr Ahenkorang petitioned the Director of Criminal Investigation Department against Mr Ntim for consistently raining insults on him on the party whatApp platforms namely, Vibrant 2024 NPP and Speak Your Mind NPP, without any provocation.
The prosecution said as part of the complaint made to the CID, the complainant also submitted a pen drive containing an alleged voice recording of the accused person as evidence.
The prosecution said in the said recording, the accused was heard uttering abusive words such as “Carlos is not somebody; He is a fool; stupid Carlos and; He is a real fool, not little fool” among other unprintable words.
According to the prosecution, the audio recordings have been forwarded to the Ghana Institute of Languages for translation and transcription.
The court was told that the accused was arrested on January 2, 2022 for investigation and subsequently, admitted to some of the voice recordings and claimed that other were allegedly cooked.
Case adjourned to Monday April 25, 2022.
