Kofi Tweneboah, businessman and also known as “Jaguar,” together with a Amasaman stationed policeman, currently identified as Boozing, are charged of defrauding a Kumasi based trader and throwing her off a moving vehicle.

The two were said to have received support from another person now only known as Nana. Thus, the thread succeeded in the scheme exploiting the name of Francis Asenso Boakye, Member of Parliament for Bantama.

Since Boozing and Nana have taken to their heels and nowhere to be found, Tweneboah is facing the charges of defrauding by false pretences, conspiracy to commit and causing unlawful harm all by himself.

Tweneboah appeared before the court presided over by Her Honour Akosua Anokyewaa Adjapong on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. He pleaded not guilty to charges including defrauding by false pretenses, causing harm, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The court, upon hearing the prosecution’s argument that Tweneboah posed a flight risk, remanded him into police custody. His next appearance is scheduled for August 6, 2024.

The allegations stem from a series of events initiated when Rita Owusu Adade’s sister, Linda Adade, residing in the United States, was contacted by an individual named Nana Kwesi via Facebook.

Claiming to be a successful estate mogul with political connections to Francis Asenso Boakye, Nana Kwesi allegedly offered to facilitate travel arrangements to the USA for a conference involving the MP.

Linda Adade, intrigued by the opportunity, shared the information on social media platforms to attract other interested individuals, including Rita Owusu Adade.

As a result, Rita collected passports and GH¢83,000 from five applicants under the belief that these documents and funds would be handed over to facilitate their travel plans.

Events took a distressing turn on April 16, 2024, when Rita Owusu Adade met Kofi Tweneboah (Jaguar) and an individual known as Boozing, disguised in police uniform, at Kotoka International Airport. There, she handed over the money and passports.

Suspicions arose shortly afterward, leading Rita to report the incident to CID Headquarters.

Further attempts to apprehend the accused on April 19, 2024, resulted in a dangerous confrontation.

Jaguar and Boozing allegedly attempted to flee in a Toyota Hilux Pickup, during which Rita Owusu Adade was pushed from the moving vehicle, causing serious injuries. She received immediate medical attention at 37 Military Hospital.

Despite an effort by the accused to mitigate legal consequences by returning the passports and funds through a police intermediary on July 15, 2024, Kofi Tweneboah (Jaguar) was apprehended on July 18, 2024, at Achimota Mile 7.

Subsequent interrogation led to Tweneboah admitting his involvement and identifying one accomplice as a police officer stationed at Amasaman, with another residing in Nsawam.

As investigations progress, authorities continue efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the alleged fraudulent scheme.

The case underscores the complexities surrounding online deception and the severe consequences faced by victims ensnared in such schemes.
