Beneficiary of MTN scholarship adjudged Best Student
Dr. Kwaku Albert Boahin, one of MTN Ghana scholarship beneficiaries, has been adjusted the Overall Best in Medicine and Surgery from the College of Health Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Dr Kwaku Albert Boahin was among the 14 beneficiary students of the MTN Bright Scholarship conferred with degrees at the 57 graduation ceremony.
The beneficiaries were part of a total of 1,279 undergraduate students of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, School of Public Health and School of Vertinary Medicine, who turned up at the 57th graduation ceremony, held at the great hall of KNUST on Thursday, 16th November, 2023 for the award after satisfying all requirements.
Dr. Albert Kwaku Boahin emerged as the Best Graduating Students, MBCHB , Medicine and Surgery.
Prof. Christian Agyare and the Dean for the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Prof. Akwasi Antwi-Kusi disclosed that the graduand was hardworking, determinated and commitment to academic excellence enabled him to achieve a significant milestone, and the college of Health Sciences is proud to recognize his achievement.
Mr. Robbert Kuzoe, Senior Manager of MTN Ghana Foundation, disclosed that a total of 30 beneficiaries will graduate from various universities across the country in the year 2023 alone.
Dr, Emmanuel Koomson, Doctor of Pharmacy and a beneficiary of the MTN Bright Scholarship, explained that, getting an admission to study Doctor of Pharmacy at KNUST, it would be challenging for the parents to afford the financial obligations to complete the school.
According to him, a friend introduce him to apply for the MTN Bright Scholarship which he applied and succeeded after been gone through a successful interview after receiving a call from an unknown number telling him he is from MTN told him to come to Accra for an interview.
He disclosed that, every semester, his school fees was paid by MTN including hostel fees and use to give them stipends every semister.
He noted that, the scholarship really took a burden off his parents, which he described was a game changer and helpful.
He expressed his profound gratitude to for the kind gesture, adding that, had it not been for MTN, he would not know where he would have been right now because they they have taken care of his fees from 2nd year to the 6th year without asking him for anything.
Mr. Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager at MTN Ghana Foundation, charged the beneficiaries to use what they have achieved to impact on the society.
He explained that, the MTN Bright Scholarship was launched in 2018 to provide financial assistance for needy but brilliant students in public tertiary institutions.
MTN Bright Scholarship falls under the education, which is one of the three focus areas of the MTN Ghana Foundation.
He stated that, the Bright Scholarship Initiative has over the years, awarded over 1000 scholarships to students from basic school to tertiary level.
He said, since the launching of the MTN Foundation in 2007, the foundation has invested in over 90 educational projects across the country.
Some of these projects include the construction of a 600-bed dormitory block for Tamale Senior High School, a multi-purpose library at Dansoman, a Telecom Laboratory for GIMPA, a six-unit classroom block for Nhyiaso Basic School, a 3-unit classroom block for Mangoase Basic School, among others.
The MTN Ghana Foundation was established in November 2007 as the vehicle to select and implement MTN’s Corporate Social Investments.
MTN Ghana Foundation has three areas of focus – Health, Education and Economic Empowerment.He disclosed that, since the inception to date, the foundation has undertaken 166 major projects across the country.
This he said includes 90 education projects, 55 healthcare projects, 15 economic empowerment project, and 6 community support initiatives
