Arise Ghana Demo – 29 arrested
The police say they have arrested 29 persons in the demonstration that went bloody and chaotic on Tuesday.
The police in a statement signed by Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Chief Superintendent of Police Director of Public Affairs today said the 29 persons were demonstrators who participated in violent attacks on the Police and some members of the public including school children during the Arise Ghana demonstration in Accra.
It said a video footages of the event available to the police are being reviewed and all other persons identified for taking part in the attacks as well as inciting the violence will be arrested and brought to face justice.
The statement further added that the organisers of the demonstration would be arrested and put before court for the attacks and damage to public property, in line with the provisions of Section 3 of the Public Order Act, (Act 49).
“Meanwhile, Police would like to draw the attention of the public to the calculated falsehood and misinformation being peddled by the organisers and their cohorts. We urge the public to disregard the untruths and treat them with the contempt they deserve, for the footages and images of the event speak for themselves,” it said.
The police assured the public that they would remain committed and professionally measured in the discharge of our constitutional mandate of enforcing law and order in the country.
The demonstration was purposed to channelled out the economic harshsip facing Ghanaians as well as mismanagment by the Akufo-Addo regime.
The demonstrators displayed placards with inscriptions: “Our ancestors are not happy,” “sack Ken Ofori Atta,” “stop police brutality now,” “Mr President where is our money,” among others.
