Ahafo Ano youth threaten to boycott 2024 election
Some Irated youth at Manfo, Subrisu, and Fante communities in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ashanti Region have called Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo as a matter of urgency to stop the state securities from unnecessary harassment.
The angry youth said if the government fails to heed their call, the consequence will be reflected in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Akowuah Samuel, a polling station Chairman at Manfo for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stated at a press conference held at Fante on Monday 15th January 2024, that the community mining project was commissioned by the sector Minister, Mireku Duka, and the same was witnessed by Matina Nyantakye, the MCE, Chiefs and the people in the year 2021.
According to him, the project, since its commission, has served as a major source of livelihood for the people but for some time now, the security agencies -the Police, Military, and Forestry guards have been harassing them.
He told a story about two of their colleagues being shot dead by the forestry guards some.years back, and just recently five more people including the NPP polling station Chairman at Subrisu were arrested and they do not know his whereabout.
He said the military, in particular, has been harassing them anytime they site without a course. Meanwhile, they are engaged in a legitimate community mining that is back by the sector ministry.
Mr Akowuah stressed that they are urging the government and the stakeholders to urgently stop whoever is behind the unlawful attacks on them else they may be compel to stage a non-stop demonstrations against the authorities and policy makers in the municipality, while may not take pa in this year’s general elections.
Mr Amoateng Kwabena, the spokesman for the youth in the community mining,also expressed worry over the stress and psychological trauma that the women among them are going through because of being chasing by the military at anytime.
The group, especially the women said stopping them from going to the site will affect their means of livelihood.
