The ongoing probe into a leaked tape by Parliament has made a shocking revelations about how the Ghana Police Service is divided on political party lines.

At least one of the antagonistic voices captured on the leaked tape, Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah has said

His posture and demeanour before the Parliamentary Committee convened to investigate an alleged plot to remove the Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare from office as IGP, send home two messages – say it all that he is bitter and consumed by partisan politics.

These conclusions are drown from his answers to questions posed by the members of the committee made up of the Majority and Minority sides of Parliament, as well as technical expert.

COP Mensah appeared before the Committee on August 31 and September 1, and was grilled for several hours.

On his first day before the committee in a company of his lawyer, exhibited his grave dislikeness of the IGP (Inspector General of Police) and how much he wanted him out of the way.

In COP Mensah 31 years service to the country, Dampare is the worst IGP ever to be appointed by any government.

He made the statement on the observation that the IGP policies were hurting the morale of police officers and yet ignores suggestions.

According to him, the IGP pick and choose which of the directors attends what meeting.

His main charges against Dr Akuffo Dampare are the administration is poorly being managed, the IGP is a member of the opposition NDC and has a non-Akan route.

The man at the centre of leaked tape also makes statements such as Dr. Dampare hides critical information from the public that he was once the aide-de-camp to the then Vice President John Fifi Atta Mills.

Serving as the Director-General of Technical Services as well as Operations for the Ghana Police Service and currently on leave prior to retirement, COP Mensah lamented over the IGP cold relationship with the military and other side security agencies.

Some of the allegations he made were so wild that the committee preferred hearing them in camera.

COP Mensah also complained about being denied promotion for nine years under the NDC (National Democratic Congress), putting IGP Dr. Dampare ahead of him.

The committee heard his struggles of wanting to be come the IGP since 2017, when the NPP took power, but his lobbying skills failed him.

Whether COP Mensah is political bias oar not his commentary in the leaked tape in which he is heard telling Bugri Naabu that the IGP must be removed to ensure that the NPP wins the 2024 elections, give a cue.

He told the committee that it was under his watch as the Director-General of Operations that Ghana experienced one of the horrific bye-elections at Ayawaso West Wogon.

Although he tried to absorb himself from the controversies and violence that mar the election, he was completely happy with the outcome because his party retained that seat.

However, with the Assin North bye-election, the supposed senior law enforcement officer craved for a supervisor of the election in order to make the outcome favourable for his party.

Nevertheless, he failed outline how he would achieve that if given the opportunity.

COP Mensah also wants IGP Dampare ousted because he is arresting members of his party that he confessed were arrested because of traffic offence.

He also said his intelligence indicated that Dr Dampare was in co stant communication with former President and flag bear of NDC, John Dramani Mahama.

He has far regretted opening up to Bugri Naabu, former Northern regional chairman of the NPP and did not waste time for not calling him a liar.

Imagining COP Mensah as IGP, perhaps Ghana will experience more of Ayawaso, and his party footsoldiers will go unpunished for crimes.

Political opponents would be targeted, prosecuted and jailed.

Ghanaians would be divided not just on political lines but tribal as well.

Employment and promotion would be scares for minority tribal groups and injustice will be the order of the day.
