20years Old Obaa Yaa Taking care of Five
Meet Obaa Yaa, a relentless young lady the Arise2Connect Africa team ( A2CA) connected with not long ago. Comfort Obaa Yaa Adobea resides at Apenkwa-Tesano in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, West Africa.
Obaa Yaa is a mirror of our current society; poverty, social neglect and injustice. In spite of all these, she puts in a lot of effort to make ends meet in order to cater for her late sister’s two children, her kid sister, sick grandmother and herself. Circumstances of life has made the young woman the sole provider for all her beneficiaries having lost both mother and sister at such a tender age.
According to the 20-year old, she had to step in to to take up such enormous responsibilities to ensure her family survives their current ordeal.
She ventured into entrepreneurship and started selling chicken gizzard just so she could provide for her family but had to abandon the business because of health issues particularly stomach ulcer. With no work, things are much difficult now as there are many people to take care of yet little or no financial support.
To add salt to injury, her place of abode has been bought by a company and an eviction notice has been served to all squatters on that piece of land to vacate by March,2020 thus she’s on the verge of becoming homeless too.
There’re many of Obaa Yaas in many forgotten corners of Ghana and Africa who struggle yet have little support from anybody.Year after year, their woes compound, and they tend to give up. It’s up to all of us to support such ones as not just a good deed but a humanitarian act as well.
This and many other untold stories inspires Arise2ConnectAfrica(A2CA) to help manage this societal deficit, it’s a charity organization which seeks to complement the efforts of social activists and the state as a whole in giving needy citizens as in the case of Obaa Yaa, social support.
Arise2connect Africa (A2CA) aims at contributing to society by providing resources for underprivileged communities in Africa.
One of it’s major aims and missions is to help strengthen all corners of the African continent by improving the quality of education, health and well-being of people.
On 4th January, 2020, the organization embarked on a New Year Family Give Away initiative which is aimed at putting smiles on the faces of families. The organization was able to donate to 10 families in Accra this New Year.
Today , Obaa Yaa can smile because her wish of living like any other Ghanaian young adult is in the process of being realized. She and the many others on our streets call for more support from well meaning fellow citizens and groups.
Arise2connect Africa is speaking in the tiny voice of Obaa Yaa, seeking for your help to make her aspiration of becoming a hairdresser/caterer as well as the goal of her sister to be a soldier and the talented young boy’s dream of becoming an engineer all possible.
