2 on trial for Abelekuma robbery

Two suspects of the Abelekuma Fan bullion robbery and killing of a police officer have arraigned before a Kaneshie District Court.

The accused persons, Benjamin Ojogbe, and Rashid Abdul, were put before the court yesterday.

Together with their accomplices were alleged to have made away with GH¢145, 163.08.

The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder of Lance Corporal Calystus Amoah, security guard attached to the billion van.

The court, presided over by Nana Abena Asor Owusu Amenyo, will commence committal proceedings to establish their guilty, hence the accused persons plea wouldn’t be taken

Benjamin and Rashid were arrested at Kwame Nkrumah Circle Railways while they were “enjoying themselves” at about 1:30 am.

The Ghana Police Service in a statement said the the accused persons and their cohorts followed the van the point where it was going to refill at a fuel station.

They took opportunity of the moment and shot multiple times at the occupants of the van at a fuel station at Ablekuma and bolted with the cash.

While others in the van managed to escape the policeman who was in the passenger seat in front, could not and was shot at close range.
